| PERFECT POSING STAGE PRESENCE Practicing Stage Presence As the quality of competitors has improved the quality of a competitor’s presentation has become more important than ever. Judges can easily pick up on a competitor’s professionalism and air of confidence and in a close decision this can sway a judge’s vote. You can create the illusion of having complete confidence in yourself even when it is your first contest and your nerves are running at a fever pitch. You show this look of complete confidence, the look of a winner, by being in complete control of yourself at all times when you are onstage. Having complete control of your movements means that you will stay away from the pitfalls that so many competitors succumb to when onstage. The most common mistakes are things like letting your stomach bloat when you breathe, letting your head hang down, constantly pumping your arms to “keep your pump” and allowing your legs to relax. Any one of these mistakes can detract from your overall look. The complete control that is so important is acquired only through practice. When you practice your posing do it as if you are onstage. If you practice as if you are in the contest you will pre-program your body on how to act when the really intense competition posing comes along. Practice every detail of your time spent onstage. How do you hold yourself as you walk on? How do move your feet when you make the quarter-turns? What do you do between poses? How do you finish your Individual Routine? Cover every detail! When you face the prospect of being onstage and nearly naked in front of seven judges and hundreds of strangers why would you want to leave anything to chance? |
