During posing on stage (NEVER SHOW YOUR THUMBS) Always keep them tucked under your other fingers – not on top of them. Whether you’re pulling a front or rear lat spread – front or rear double bicep pose, side chest shot, most muscular etc. Keep the thumbs invisible. ![]() ![]() The only exceptions to this rule I know of are the hands on hips most muscular pose and the archer pose on the hand that is extended outward. But the one that is in the single bicep position during the archer shot is still a thumbless view. Even while standing relaxed in a line-up on stage the thumbs must be tucked under. If not it takes away from the natural flow of the lines of the Human body. When something sticks out like your fingers or thumbs the judges will notice it. I learned how to pose from the best there ever was and still is, my manager and friend Bob Gruskin. He is one of the best bodybuilding photographers and judges there is in the world. He is now head of the NABBA USA bodybuilding federation. He knows what contestants look like from “down under” where the judges sit and taught me and many other top Bodybuilders what the judges look for. Now I can pass that knowledge on to you. Until next time - more tips on training, posing, contest preparation etc. Below are a couple of examples of what Joe means by keeping the thumbs out of view.
