Back to The Edge

Hello & welcome to this first installment of these articles! Today, I want to talk about fear and how it holds us back from our goals. Have you ever noticed how we like things when they are comfortable but not when we have to get out of our comfort zones? We are creatures of comfort. But what holds us back? Why are we content to complain about our ever expanding waist measurements yet fall short of action to reverse the process? Is it laziness? Maybe some of it can be attributed to a lack of drive, but I think when we go even deeper we'll find that we're afraid to get out of our normal patterns of life.

I know that many people are scared to even try a gym. Whether it be because of stereotypes about big muscular guys, or if you're a woman, being stared at by leering men or guys always trying to pick you up; most times it's fear that keeps you from going towards your goals.

We all face fear; most daily. And what about all those who don’t seem to face any real adversity? It's not that they no longer have fears; it's what are done with those fears. Do they stop us or do we embrace the challenge? There are illustrations of how people in the Bible were scared to do what God asked them to do, but did it anyway. Did they overcome their fear and boldly go in with no fear at all? I would say no...they did it afraid! God convinced them just to try! Then He met them where they were at and carried them to their goals and/or victory!

So what are you most afraid of? What are you afraid to do? What are you afraid to commit to? What do you think will fail even before you start? Your homework will be to pick one thing AND DO IT AFRAID!

Yours in fitness!
