Did you ever notice that many bodybuilders when doing a Front Lat Spread…they’re suppose to look wide, yet they look narrow? Well, the next time you are at a pre-judging watch how far forward the competitors are trying to bring their elbows. Many think the more forward the elbows the more the lats flare out. However, this actually leads to the second problem which is the shoulders rising. Not always but past a certain point your shoulders will begin to rise when your elbows are too far forward. And that is where you really lose your width. The shoulders in a Front Lat Spread must be forced down and at the same time you must raise your ribcage. This is actually the third problem creating a narrow look. If you concave your chest because you are trying to flex your abs you will be sacrificing your width. You must expand your ribcage or should I say lift your ribcage. When I say expand I mean to take a deep breath. But for some that might not be a good idea because a deep breath causes their abdominal area to look big. So the ribcage must be lifted without a breath. Or after you take your breath, exhale immediately, but keep your ribcage up. This would also be the same for a competitor who wants to bring their abs into the picture. Take that deep breath to help lift your ribcage, but as you exhale to flex your abs, don’t let your ribcage drop. To sum it up:
