Back Double Bicep/Back Lat Spread For the Back Double Biceps and Back Lat Spread, the judges ask for one leg to be brought back to be able to flex or “spike” the calf muscle. If you are a novice you will naturally bring back the leg that is natural for you. In other words most people are either left-handed or right-handed. Well it is the same with our feet. Most are either left-footed or right-footed. If you play or did play soccer, when you first started you know you were better at kicking the ball with either your left or right foot. And quite often the calf on your natural side is a little bigger or looks better. Next is to bring that leg back and place your foot in a position where you feel balanced, comfortable, your quad and hamstring looks good, and you are able to flex that calf as hard as possible. I would say it is a happy medium of back and out to the side. If you were to just bring your foot straight back just a few inches, you would be able to flex your calf real easy, and your hamstring might look good, but if your quad lacks a sweep, it will look small. And if do just the opposite where you bring your leg too far back or too far out to the side, you will look awkward and might not have full control in flexing your calf. The next thought is the actual flexing of the calf. If you flex your calf in a totally peaked position where your heel is high off the floor that will give you more of a shorter peaked look. If you have long calves where it seems like your muscle connects more than halfway down and you feel like you lack thickness, I would suggest you flex in the peaked position. But if you think your calves are connected a little high, my suggestion is to try and make them look a little longer by flexing the calf with your heel not so high of the floor. This is the way I usually do it. It also seems to widen the calf at the same time bringing out the separation in the upper calf and the connective tissue that connect to the back of the knees.
