Hamstring Report!

As I have gotten older, I have begun to experiment more with what seems to get results and what does not. Sometimes the answer happens almost right away as in with this month's exercise for the hamstrings.

The stiff legged deadlift (knees slightly bent) has been advocated around gyms for a while as a hamstring exercise that can really hit them. Let me tell you that it may be good for a workout or two, done at a quick tempo with little rest but that is about as far as it goes. I switched off leg curls and gave these a shot for a while and actually noticed a decline in the size and shape of the hamstrings! Of any exercise for the hams, the leg curl seems to hit them the best. To further that, a leg curl with the upper body OFF of the bench hits them even harder! Orif the bench can incline, as in home gym benches, place the bench at about a 30 degree angle for the upper body and hit those curls!

Try these different variations to keep them confused:

4 sets x 10 reps
6 sets x 6 reps
8 sets x 8 reps

Switch the tempos, the rest times, etc. Don't let your mind seal you in, the different ways to stress the muscle are endless!
