MUSCLES MUSCLES MUSCLES

(Who’s Got The Muscles)

Can you imagine, the muscle system is made up of 6 Trillion muscle fibers. (also called cells) Each fiber is thinner than a human hair, but can support up to 1000 times it’s own weight. Only God …could create such an amazing thing.

There are 639 muscles in the human body. Each one of those muscles has an origin and insertion. The origin is usually the attachment to the more stationary bone while the insertion is the connection to the mobile bone. Let’s take the Brachialis (your biceps best friend ie makes your bicep bulge) for example. It’s origin is the distant front surface of your humerus. It’s insertion is a small bump on the end of the ulna.

These muscles are made of a very special type of tissue, which is composed of “contractible” cells or fibers that effects movement of an organ or part of a body. In order for specific movement to occur, muscles have to play certain roles. The muscle that carries out an action is called the “prime mover” , while muscles that support the prime mover are called “synergists”. Muscles that resist the prime mover are called “antagonists”. (makes sense, doesn’t it?) For example...if I was doing some curls with my right arm…my prime mover would be my Biceps and synergist would be my Bicep’s best friend...Brachialis...and the antagonist would be the...Triceps. There is a constant game of give and take as we build our muscles. Body builders are more aware of this fact than most people. Our whole routine is structured around the degrees of this phenomenon and how to correctly balance that tug of war. The average persons are unaware of their bodies and their movement. Can you imagine the muscles at work to do something as simple as walk to the mailbox. Is it really so simple? Like I said before…Only God…

Below are 4 major functions of your muscles:

To produce movement / To stabilize joints

To maintain posture / To generate heat

Thank You God for all our muscles…show us how we can use them for you…

Be Blessed, your sis, Laura
