BURN BABY BURN
How could something that sounds
so bad be
good for you?
How could I, possibly enter the
arena of
the eternal debate concerning…
“the burn”?
Let me just start by saying…I
am not here
to debate, I think everyone has
a piece of
the puzzle. I am just going to
throw some
interesting facts and comments
from people
who have been at this a lot longer
than I
and hopefully, one day we will
be all knowing
(?)!
Adam Bean from “Runners World”
shares that
strength training builds muscle.
OK, who
did not know this one?(?) See
you might think
that this is a given , but not
so in the
running world where aerobic is
thought to
be the all in all. Adam goes
on to state
“muscles are great at burning
calories- fat
calories included” now, I have
everyone’s
attention…who does not want to
know how to
burn away those extra few inches
that seem
to be in the wrong place? Adam
says, “better
still, more muscle translates
into higher
metabolism…so you can burn more
calories
even while you sleep. Strength
training is
especially important when trying
to lose
weight…as it can help you maintain
(or even
build) muscle while you lose
unwanted flab.”
I do not know about you, but
that really
motivates me…one thing I cannot
stand on
me is that 2-3 inch increase
in what appears
to be flab. My head knows it
is just the
muscle fat burn ratio balancing
out but my
clothes tell me something else...yuck…so
you guessed it , I will be stepping
up my
strength training. Please remember,
if you
are losing weight without doing
any strength
training you might be loosing
muscle as well
as fat and that is not good.
Here are some helpful suggestions
in mixing
it up a bit:
Robert Dos Memedos c.s.c.s. of
“Men’s Health
says “Versatility in your work
out will shake
it up…add some new combos. Combination
exercises
ie 2 or more moves blended together
are intended
to work tons of muscle mass and
save time.
Keep your eyes open for 3 types
of combos.(pure,hybrid,complex).”
Another benefit to combination
workouts is
increased fluidity. Over working
or developing
individual muscles can restrict
the natural
flow of movement. Try to have
your combos
mimic real life movements. You
will be amazed
at the increased strength as
you combine
muscle groups that were naturally
created
to work together.
