What is an Athlete, Are You One?
|
Our friend Webster says the word
“athlete”
is from the Greek word , athon,
which means,
“a prize”. A person who is trained
in exercises
or games requiring strength,
skill and stamina….sounds
like body building to me….
Lisa Gschwandtiner of “Selling
Power” says…”Being
good at something really has
to do with your
ability to acquire the appropriate
skills
to do it well.” This is so true…we
are to
never stop studying, learning
or growing.
Dr. Anders Ericsson has spent
years in studying
top athletes and artists to try
and find
out what separates them from
the norm. In
all his studies, hard work trumps
talent
every time. My question is then
why do we
walk around with the misconception
we are
not at good as someone else…
because , we
have to work at it.
Look around, talk to someone
who is successful.
Listen carefully, there has been
a lot of
hard work that has got them through.
Sometmes,
it has taken them a lifetime.
They did not
quit. (to stop or continue no
more) Pausing
and restarting is not quitting….no
matter
the pause…so , continue.
Our lives are such a mixture
, a blend of
what we call spiritual principles
and our
daily life activities. Some times
they are
so intertwined one cannot see
where one ends
and the other begins…now that’s
Faith…where
that spiritual life so infuses
with the natural,
they appear to be moving forward
together
as one…ta..da.. the true “Christian
walk”
…or should I say “Race”.
In 1 Corinthians 9:24, we are
told about
the race of our lives. (the spiritual
race
that is infused with our natural
one, in
every day life)
The example given is one of a
race where
all runners, all athletes competing
for only
one obtainable prize. Our writer
then challenges
us to look at it differently
to view the
race spiritually. From this new
perspective…yes,
we all train…yes, we all restrict
ourselves
of unprofitable activities…yes,
we all work
hard….but the difference is….we
all have
our own race to run, our own
course,…and
yes, we get our own prize.
I guess my words to encourage
us all along
this race would be: Try not to
get caught
up in running someone else’s
race or maybe
training for their course…instead
of the
one set before you.
We are all athletes, we are all
in the race…lets
go for the our prize!
Here are some helpful hints :
*1st make sure your in the right
race, you
race
*2nd develop the appropriate
training program
specific to your challenges…training
for
your race at you pace.
*3rd continue to study, to learn,
to grow
and to work hard to finish your
race….because
you have been promised a prize….your
prize….
See Ya at the finish line, your
sis, Laura
