December 2006
Because God said so!

I have been toiling with the newsletter for this month. It seems that the more I try to force the words to come, the more they dig their heels in and hide, (picture a mule sitting down and me pulling on the reins.) Now some good topics came to mind, but the words never came for them. To steal a line from my friend Kevin Parker, (who by the way will be getting his own page next month as a writer for MCBB!) I have a Holy Ghost writer! The newsletters flow because God opens the doors for the words to flow, not because I am some wonderful wordsmith. By now, you may be saying,"hey, this isn't his usual format, what gives?" and you'd be right. This month is different. Why? Because God said so!

If we are truthful with ourselves, we will admit that we are a selfish lot, we humans. Without pratice, we think of ourselves first; our preservation. It is only with practice that thinking of others becomes the first thought, and thus, putting our own needs last. My wife is an excellent example of putting others first. Sadly, being the bodybuilder that I am, am not. I am not an ogre, but if I am hungry... If left to our own devices, we would kill each other, steal, beat, loot, pillage and plunder. It is an ugly picture to paint about the human race, but look around, we do it now. In the city where I live, murders are happening left and right and for what? OK, you get the point, I am sure, so I will move on.

We are blessed to be able to have the things we do in this life and sometimes I think we overlook that. We want the bigger TV when we aren't even thankful for the fact that we own one right now. The very fact that you are reading this means you own a computer or have access to one. We want a bigger house because we need room for our stuff when there are people who are praying it won't rain because the cardboard roof will collapse on theirs. As bodybuilders we are concerned with how much protein we are getting per meal, not even giving thought to the guy with the sign that says, "will work for food," and he means it.

We walk with our eyes set straight ahead on the sidewalk, ignoring the beggar in the doorway because he will only spend the money on booze afterall. Is he just a bum, or did he loose all he had in a fire? His wife and three kids gone in an instant. Or if you gave him money, did you just entertain an angel? You know the Scripture coming here my friends. ("And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Matthew 25:40) We need to take these words to heart because we will be called into accountability for the actions we carry out here on earth.

What are you doing to expand the kingdom of God? Did you get saved and that has been it? Are you happy with your own salvation and like a little kid with a toy who doesn't share, play in the corner all by yourself? You cannot do that you know. Why? Because God said so, that's why! It is our Commission! God wants everybody to be saved, not just a few here and there. We are all God's children and it is our job to spread the Good News! Don't say you can't, I know from experience that that doesn't wash! I want you to just think for a moment. What if the person that witnessed to you had thought that way?

Christmas is just around the corner and with very few exceptions, the stores don't even mention it anymore. They shout out "Happy Holidays!" because they want to be "politically correct," Ummm, NO! It's Merry Christmas! God did something none of us would ever, ever do. He gave us His Son as the ultimate gift! I will not be badgered into another mindset this time of year, not this time. I am a Christian, I am proud of it! My Saviour, my gift from God was given to me this day! Because of that, with my acceptance of this gift, I am guaranteed eternal life in paradise and you want me to forget that?!?, Yeah, right! I don't think so!

I ask you my friends, don't lose sight of the real reason we are here on earth. Yes, we are all connected through bodybuilding and fitness, and many use it as a tool for ministry and that is awesome. We are here to win souls. We are here to let our light shine as a beacon for others. In our actions and daily living. As Val has said to me many times, "think, is what I am saying or doing bringing glory to God or not?" If it does not, then knock it off! (my words, not hers). I am not perfect and many times I have repented and asked for forgiveness because I have failed Him, thank God for mercy and grace!

Thank you all for being a part of this thing that we do. We pray you all have good health, and that you are ever-reaching for Him. Win souls for Him brothers and sisters, it's the very least we can do! Be like the one lone voice crying in the wilderness if need be! God bless you all!
