Write it Down!
My wife and I are off to go shopping for
just a few items. We are out
the door and
to the store as quick as can
be. With shopping
cart firmly in hands I roll with
a confidence
shared only with by those with
clear shopping
agendas. That is, until I get
the brain-function
ceasing question posed to me!
"So what
is it we needed?" My mind
scrolls the
memory banks and opens each door.
Weight
training? Nope, wrong door,.
Diet? Wrong
door again! This goes on for
a few seconds
as it doesn't take long for me
to admit that
"I don't know." We
should have
written it down is all I can
say. Of course
my wife suggested this before
we left the
house, but I figured that a guy
who can remember
what he trained and how a month
ago can remember
a few simple items for the store!
R-i-g-h-t!
And there it is in a nutshell! The only reason
I could remember what I trained and how is because
I do write it down! As well as you should too.
Why? Because that is how you measure your
progress. If you didn't write down the weights
for each lift, do you think you could remember?
I admit that I couldn't and I certainly wouldn't
want to be lifting the same weight over and
over again because I forgot. Keep a log,
keep a journal in that log as well. Some
days we feel better than others, write it
down. Discover the way your body reacts to
the stresses you place upon it both in the
gym and out. If you have an off day at the
gym because you only got 5 hours sleep, then
write it down. Feeling sick, write it down.
The little battles we win with an increase
in weight is what we look for and can see
by writing it down. By writing down our progress
we can also see when it may be time to change
out a program because we've leveled out.
You can also apply this to your dieting.
Write down everything you eat. This gives
you a record of all calories, proteins, carbs
and fats. It can help you better manipulate
your food intake to achieve your desired
goals. Writing it down gives you a visual
record on all facets of your training.
As Christians, we are called to pray and
there are example of people praying throughout
the entire Bible. However, many times we
go into a prayer session with absolutely
no idea of where to begin, what to pray,
etc. Then the devil gets us distracted and
we lose focus. Ever have that happen? You
sit down with all good intentions to pray
and the next thing you know, you are thinking
about what to make for dinner! Well, here
is a suggestion. You guessed it! Write it
down! Get yourself a notebook, like you have
for your weight training and record those
things you want to pray about. It helps keep
you focused when you pray. You can also mark
off prayers that have been answered by God.
You have a visual record in front of you.
How great is that, so as you pray to God,
you can further glorify Him with thanks and
praise for prayers answered. Sometimes we
go through a dry period in our Christian
walk where we don't feel like God hears us
at all. THis is a time for nostalgia. Go
back, look at all the situations that you
cried and mourned over and God came though.
We frail humans come out on the other side
and begin whining about something els and
forget the great things that He has done.
Go back and remember, look where you came
from and where you are now. It just would
not be the same without writing it down.
There's something about tear-stained pages
that make a difference.
And now our prayer. Father, thank You for
prayer. Thank You for teaching us the way
to talk to You. We are repentant and sorry
for the times when we lapse in our speaking
with You, for losing touch with You. Thank
You for Your grace and mercy that You pour
out on us even though we are not worthy.
In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
Now go with God and lift that iron!
