Raid at bodybuilder's home could
mean expanded
steroids probe
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A raid
on the home
of a former bodybuilding champion
may indicate
federal authorities have expanded
the scope
of a steroid distribution probe
that led
to indictments against four men
last month.
An agent from the Drug Enforcement
Administration's
Des Moines, Iowa, office traveled
to California
late last year to serve a search
warrant
at the Temecula home of Milos
Sarcev, a former
Mr. Yugoslavia.
Jose Martinez, the DEA's spokesman
in Los
Angeles, also said Friday that
agents conducted
an interview at the Golds Gym
in Fullerton
that is owned by Sarcev.
Say it ain't so! A pro bodybuilder
and steroids?
NO WAY! Now, I am thinking: It's
about time!
Talk about a clue staring you
right in the
face! We hear all of this talk
about steroids
in track & field, baseball,
football,
etc. The most obvious stares
DEA right in
the face! Come on guys! This
is what we call
a "no-brainer!" Various
news reports
state that the DEA was all over
the place
at the Arnold Classic this year.
Arnold may
have admitted to doing steroids
in the past,
but continuing to promote shows
that condone
their usage doesn't exactly send
a message
of true repentance. Argue if
you want, but
I say he still approves of there
usage. Why?
Because the biggest and freakiest
bodybuilders
are being rewarded, that's why.
If there
comes a time when the mass monsters
no longer
win the judges approval and the
natural bodybuilder
with God-given genetics begins
to win these
contests, then we have something
to talk
about. Until then it is simply
a case of
who has the better connections
with a pharmecist!
Let's clean up bodybuilding!
Sacramento Bee (March 13, 2004)
Steroid Cloud Over Bodybuilders’
"Arnold
Classic" - Advisers to Gov.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
sought to distance him Friday
from reports
that an international bodybuilding
event
he co-founded was visited by
federal authorities
last weekend as part of a widening
probe
into steroid distribution in
the sports world.
The Governor's Office declined
to respond
to an ESPN report that at least
five subpoenas
were issued at the Arnold Fitness
Weekend
in Columbus, Ohio. The event,
which drew
an estimated 80,000 spectators
and participants,
includes the Arnold Classic bodybuilding
competition and dozens of exhibits
advertising
a range of nutritional supplements,
hormones
and steroids. "If people
are asking
questions about the (federal
Drug Enforcement
Administration) and the Arnold
Classic, that
has nothing to do with the Governor's
Office,"
said Margita Thompson, a Schwarzenegger
spokeswoman
who accompanied him to the three-day
event
along with more than a dozen
advisers, advance
team members and security officers.
Can you believe this? It has
everything to
do with the Govenor's office.
Here is a person
who is a law maker/overseer who
condones
and rewards the illegal use of
drugs. What
kind of message are we sending
to our kids?
You know who I am talking about.
The millions
of adolescents that flock to
his movies every
year. If he wants to make bodybuilding
a
national lifestyle, if he wants
to help kids
from his seat on the National
Board of Fitness,
then how about discouraging and
shunning
the freaky mass monsters that
are currently
taking home huge paychecks from
the Arnold
Classic? Walking through the
Arnold Expo
it is like walking through a
movie set, but
not the Terminator with it's
protective hero,
something more along the lines
of Jurassic
Park with it's clinically manufactured
creatures
that are not found in nature.
And while I'm on this soapbox,
what is it
about bodybuilding magazines?
They are one
step away from porn and in some
cases, right
there with porn. Now I know someone
will
say that is not true, but I say
it is. It
is that kind of liberal thinking
that is
contributing to the moral decay
of this country!
Why do I need to open one of
these magazines
and see a woman facing away from
me wearing
nothing but dental floss? What
does this
have to do with bodybuilding
or supplements?
Answer: NOTHING! These magazines
are showing
the "Bimbo of the month,"
and giving
her the title of "fitness
something
or other." Please! If it
is about fitness,
why the dental floss bikini?
Is it necessary?
Oh, I know, it is the only way
to sell a
magazine! Hmm...Maybe if the
magazine had
some substance to it.... I was
so very disappointed
when Muscular Development sold
out and went
to the bimbo format. Before they
did that,
they had really informative articles
with
cited studies. They featured
an athlete of
the month and their exercise
routine, not
another drug pumped bodybuilder.
Sadly, they
succumbed to the bodybuilder
and bimbo mindset
and a really good magazine went
the way of
the dodo.
These magazines today are filled
with 80%
advertising for one "miracle"
supplement
after another, an article here
or there and
of course the porno slide shows.
Hey, haven't
you noticed yet that the pro
bodybuilders
promote the same exercises that
you are doing
in their articles about training?
Do you
want to know why? I'll be happy
to tell you.
Because there are no secret routines
or magic
presses that they do to get where
they are.
They do the same exercises we
all do! The
difference? They have access
to a wide variety
of pharmecueticals!
One more thing about these magazines.
They
are to a lot of bodybuilders
what fashion
magazines are to females. These
physiques
they show are naturally unattainable.
Let
me repeat that once more. These
physiques
are naturally unattainable. Most
of the male
population today cannot afford
to spend the
money that is spent on steroids,
growth hormone,
etc. to get to the physique level
seen in
these magazines. And on that
note I ask you,
why would you want to? The damage
that is
done to the body is simply not
worth it,
not to mention that it is ILLEGAL!
Eat whole
foods, get your sleep and lift
that iron.
Do it for the glory of God, not
the glory
of the photo shoot!
Now back to steroids. Here's
something to
get parents really upset. According
to the
NIDA - National Institute on
Drug Abuse,
the number of teen steroid abuse
is on the
rise.
"The most recent data from
our Monitoring
the Future survey tell us that
the trends
in use of these drugs and in
teenagers' attitudes
about them are going in the wrong
direction,"
said NIDA Director Dr. Alan I.
Leshner at
a Washington, D.C., press conference
to announce
the initiative. "More than
a half million
8th- and 10th-grade students
are now using
these dangerous drugs, and increasing
numbers
of high school seniors say they
don't believe
the drugs are risky."
"In adolescents, anabolic
steroid abuse
can halt bone growth and has
been associated
with damage to the heart, kidneys,
and liver.
In males, steroid abuse can lead
to impotence,
shrunken testicles, and breast
enlargement.
In females, the drugs' effects
include menstrual
irregularities, growth of body
hair and loss
of scalp hair, a deepened voice,
and reduction
in breast size. Some of these
biological
effects are irreversible. Use
of anabolic
steroids also has been linked
to increased
and unpredictable levels of aggression
in
human and animal studies."

Is this worth the price of stardom?
I think
not! Top athletes!Listen! Please!
Children
look up to you! They emulate
you, for better
or worse. What a glorious opportunity
God
has granted you to reach out
to the youth
of the world! Don't drop the
ball or pass
the buck with the standard, "It
has
to be done to be competitive,"
reply.
Speaking of children. I wonder
what percentage
of these pro bodybuilders cannot
have kids
because of the steroid abuse.
Just wondering.
Please understand that we are
not personally
attacking any one person, but
the illegal
use of drugs. You can hate the
sin but love
the sinner. Too much emphasis
is being placed
on the trophy, the top award,
the gold ring
and to attain it by any means
possible. These
pros of today were the young
and impressionable
kids of yesterday. If only more
of us would
speak out for them instead of
being enablers
in attaining that goal.
And now, please pray with us.
Dear Father,
guide us in our athletic endeavors.
Steer
us on a straight and natural
path when we
compete. Help us maintain focus
on giving
You the glory, having fun and
enjoying ourselves.
Give us the wisdom to realize
that "by
any means possible" does
not fit in
well with Your desires. Help
us stay focused
on the true and real goal: You
and heaven.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen!
Now, train hard, pray harder!
Go with God
and lift that iron!
