HEAL ME, LORD, OR AT LEAST, GET ME TO A DOCTOR...
By Sevi Regis
The problem with living in two worlds at
the same time, is that it isn't
always obvious
which one to draw from in a given
circumstance.
Born again disciples of Messiah
Jesus are
unique to all other people: our
minds regularly
interface with the supernatural
realm, the
in-dwelling Spirit resident within
us is
divine, and our bodies are continually
touched
and protected by the God in whom
we believe.
But at the same time, our feet
walk on earth,
our bodies are mortal and vulnerable,
our
preoccupations are riveted onto
worldly survival
cares, and our souls seek solace
from the
stress of bridging these two
competing worlds.
And as the bumper sticker reads:
"S__
__ __ (stuff) happens."
So what do we
do when "stuff" does
happen? Who
do we turn to, expecially in
the case of
a medical condition or emergency?
Okay, here's the key: "form
follows
function" as is said in
the art world.
And what is more of a masterpiece
than the
human body? And to think it resembles
God
Himself... a breathtaking and
burdening thought
indeed. But even still, we will
not automatically
be faith healed every time we
become ill.
Sometimes we have to work at
that healing.
I have had both circumstances
in my life:
I've been supernaturally healed
in an instant
at certain times, and then in
other occasions,
I had to persevere for decades
before being
handed the key of understanding,
which I
then had to apply. So how do
we know the
difference, and what to apply
at what time?
Here's how: no room for laziness
in the kingdom,
my brethren. We are athletes
and we must
learn and know how every bodily
system works.
We must know more than the doctors,
even
though I wouldn't try to fix
my own teeth.
For certain "mechanical"
things,
we simply need that mechanic.
And maybe God
also intended for us to witness
to that medical
professional. So to use them
for diagnostics
and some treatments is always
recommended.
But here's what we must do: we
must be responsible
for our own health and well-being,
and we
can only do so through continuous
pro-active
learning. Remember, Scripture
says, "My
people perish for lack of knowledge."
Ignorance kills, never let it
get you in
the shadows. Okay, so I can't
fix my own
broken tooth, and I'm not created
like a
shark who can simply grow another
one. Reality
is reality, a broken tooth can
be smoothed
over naturally, by a small increment
of calcium
and dentin overlaid on the fracture
area,
but it won't grow into a new
tooth. My job
is to research all the methods,
techniques,
materials, problems, and practitioners,
so
that when I choose to allow one
of them to
mess around with my mouth, that
I've made
the most informed decision possible
and entered
the transaction armed with as
much knowledge,
perhaps even more, than he has.
Now in other cases problems like
arthritis
caused by food allergies, diabetes
caused
by nutritional and digestive
overload, and
certain other diseases can be
diffused by
natural methods and lots of prayer.
God does
do miracles, such as a friend
of mine who
was dying with cancer. But while
she was
praying fervently for healing,
she was taking
the pro-active steps of learning
all about
the causes of her illness, the
way that part
of her body works, what has shown
to make
the condition better or worse,
and which
medical treatments have the highest
rate
of cure and recovery. By using
all of these
tools simultaneously, you will
always get
the best result. Remember, Scripture
teaches,
"Above all things, gain
understanding."
And "Wisdom calls out..."
With the Internet at our fingertips,
and
a world of responsible medical
and metabolic
information at our fingertips,
we have what
no generation before us ever
had, and if
we use it fully, we will be better
equipped
to take on and overcome life's
incessant
challenges. "Many are the
afflictions
of the righteous, but the Lord
delivers him
out of them all!" We just
have to be
open to the method. For most
things, the
natural way is better; but for
anything mechanical:
tooth repair, broken bones, torn
tissues,
and other non-nutritionally influenced
problems,
please see a doctor right away.
Also for
painful areas, declines in function,
or general
feelings of malaise, go for a
diagnostic
evaluation. Then you can decide,
after Googling
everything about it, what you
will pursue
as a course of healing. And while
you're
doing it, pray for wisdom, guidance,
and
yes, healing.
