20 Rep Squats
October '05

October is here and a chill in the air! Let's hit those legs for some 20 rep squats, also known as Breathing Squats. Why are they called breathing squats you ask? After the 14th or so rep, you'll know why! No rocket science here; it is pretty basic. Take a weight that you can squat for 10 reps. Now do it for20! Don't move out from under that bar until you knock them all out either that is provided you are not hurt of course and try to do these with a spot! I have taken to doing some leg extensions and leg curls to warm up the legs a bit as well as a light warm up set of squatting. Each training session increase the weight you will squat by 5 pounds. I train legs twice a week so that figures out to 10 pounds a week. Doesn't sound like much, but just give this routine a try and see if you don't devlop a new respect for the squat and volume training! There are a lot of different opinions as to how long you should stay on this routine, but I say let your body dictate how you feel about it. Some go with an 8 weeks on the routine and switch to a different routine for 8 weeks and then back on it again. Go with what feels "right" for you! Everyone should try these at least once!
